My home lab

My purpose

Primarily Learning Cisco Technologies

I’ve been working with Cisco for a large number of years now. It was never my fulltime job until I migrated from a Nortel Baystack enivironment to Cisco Catalyst. I’ve found that there is always something more to learn with networking, and espically with Cisco. My $day job is supporting a hospital with Routing and switching, Wireless and Security. While I feel I’m very comfortable with the switching, my routing skills are not utilized very much. Layer 3 switches not withstanding.

Secondary Learning VmWare

Tertiary learning Linux

Applications

The applications I want to learn are open source applications such as FreeRadius.

The lab

Mac Mini

The primary device in my lab is a Mac Mini running ESXi 5.1. It has a standard 500 GB hard drive. I replaced the 4 GB of memory with 16 GB RAM from Crucial. In order to run Exsi I reformated the hard drive and with the instructions from VirtuallyGhetto.com I was able to install Esxi 5.1.
